2026 Lexus IS Gets a Major Glow-Up with Refined Looks, New Tech, and a Streamlined V6 Lineup

Disclosure

PLANO, Texas – The Lexus IS, a cornerstone of the compact sport sedan segment for over two decades, is receiving a significant refresh for the 2026 model year. Lexus has announced that its beloved rear-wheel-drive sedan will feature a sharper, more refined design inside and out, accompanied by major technology upgrades including the standard Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and a large 12.3-inch touchscreen.

In a move to streamline its offerings, the 2026 IS will be available exclusively as the IS 350, powered by a potent V6 engine. Buyers will have the choice between two distinct grades: F SPORT Design and the more aggressive F SPORT. The updated model is set to hit showrooms in early 2026.

A Legacy of Driving Enjoyment

Since its introduction in 1999, the Lexus IS has been praised for its dynamic performance and bold design, accumulating sales of approximately 1.3 million units worldwide. The 2026 model continues to build on this legacy, with development focused on enhancing the "Lexus Driving Signature"—a brand-wide commitment to delivering a responsive, linear, and engaging driving experience.

Refreshed and Refined Exterior

The 2026 IS showcases a redesigned exterior that emphasizes its low center of gravity and wide stance. The F SPORT grade enhances this look with a newly designed optional rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics and available red brake calipers. Both the F SPORT and F SPORT Design grades will ride on newly styled 19-inch lightweight aluminum wheels.

The exterior color palette expands to seven choices, including Ultra White, Iridium, Cloudburst Gray, Caviar, Infrared, and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0. A new addition, Wind, is a light gray metallic hue designed to express a dynamic sense of motion.

A Modern, Driver-Focused Cockpit

The interior has been thoughtfully updated to create a cockpit that keeps the driver fully engaged. The most notable upgrade is the now-standard Lexus Interface on a large 12.3-inch touchscreen, which is positioned for intuitive operation. This is complemented by a new 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, providing clear and easily readable vehicle information.

New interior design elements include "Forged Bamboo" ornamentation on the center console and start button bezel. F SPORT models gain an exclusive new interior color option, "Radiant Red," inspired by solar flares to create an aggressive and sporty atmosphere.

For audio enthusiasts, a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound system comes standard, while a 17-speaker Mark Levinson system is available as an option. Convenience is also enhanced with two high-output USB-C ports in the front and two in the rear, alongside a larger wireless charging pad designed to accommodate a wide range of smartphones.

V6 Power and Enhanced Dynamics

The 2026 Lexus IS will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 311 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The rear-wheel-drive model is paired with an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission, while the all-wheel-drive version utilizes a six-speed automatic.

Lexus engineers have also focused on refining the driving experience. By optimizing the Electric Power Steering (EPS) and suspension systems, the 2026 IS aims to deliver a more linear and consistent steering feel, allowing the car to move more intuitively with the driver's intent.

Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 Now Standard

A key upgrade for 2026 is the inclusion of Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 as standard equipment. This advanced suite of active safety features includes:

  • Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection: Helps detect vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists and can provide automatic emergency braking.
  • Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC): Maintains a preset distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA): Provides active driving assistance to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane.
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA): Issues a warning and can provide gentle steering corrections if an inadvertent lane departure is detected.
  • Road Sign Assist (RSA): Detects and displays key road sign information.
  • Proactive Driving Assist (PDA): Provides gentle braking into curves or to help manage distance from a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist.
