2026 Toyota Camry Nightshade Edition Brings Darker Style to America’s Hybrid Sedan
Toyota gives its all-hybrid Camry lineup a darker, sportier personality for 2026 with the new Nightshade Edition, exclusive black exterior accents, 19-inch wheels and up to 51 mpg.
Toyota is giving its ninth-generation Camry an even more distinctive personality for the 2026 model year with the introduction of the new Camry Nightshade Edition.
Designed to amplify the sedan's already athletic appearance, the new Nightshade Edition combines a blacked-out exterior treatment with unique 19-inch wheels, gloss-black badging and a selection of Midnight Black Metallic design elements.
The new edition joins the existing LE, SE, XLE and XSE grades, bringing the total Camry lineup to five versions. As with the rest of the range, the Nightshade Edition will be available with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
The 2026 Camry is scheduled to arrive at Toyota dealerships in the United States in fall 2025, with pricing to be announced closer to its on-sale date.
A Darker Take on the Camry
The centerpiece of the 2026 lineup is undoubtedly the new Nightshade Edition.
Available in Ice Cap, Supersonic Red and Midnight Black Metallic, the special edition uses Midnight Black Metallic elements throughout the exterior to create a more aggressive and cohesive appearance.
The black treatment extends to the front grille, air curtains, side canards, door handles, mirror caps, shark-fin antenna, rear lower sport diffuser and rear spoiler.
The effect is complemented by distinctive 19-inch wheels and gloss-black Camry badging, giving the Nightshade Edition a more performance-oriented stance without fundamentally changing the sleek proportions of the ninth-generation sedan.
Toyota is also introducing a new exterior color for 2026: Dark Cosmos. The deep, hazy blue shade will be available on the SE, XLE and XSE grades, adding another visual option to the Camry's extensive palette.
Other available exterior colors include Ocean Gem, Heavy Metal, Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Underground, Midnight Black Metallic, Supersonic Red and Reservoir Blue.
The XSE continues to offer an available two-tone appearance, pairing selected body colors with a Midnight Black Metallic roof.
The Camry Is Now Exclusively Hybrid
Unlike previous generations, the ninth-generation Toyota Camry is offered exclusively with hybrid power.
Under the hood is Toyota's fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), paired with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.
Front-wheel-drive models produce 225 net-combined horsepower, while AWD versions increase output to 232 net-combined horsepower.
The powertrain was engineered not only for efficiency but also for a more natural driving experience. Toyota's engineers tuned the latest hybrid system to better synchronize acceleration with engine speed, using additional electrical power from the lithium-ion traction battery to reduce sudden increases in engine revolutions during acceleration.
The result is intended to provide a more linear and natural feeling behind the wheel than drivers might traditionally associate with a hybrid powertrain.
The system is paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT), which continuously adjusts its ratio according to throttle input and driving conditions.
Efficiency remains one of the Camry's strongest attributes. Toyota estimates that the LE FWD can achieve up to 51 mpg combined, although final EPA ratings may vary by configuration.
AWD Adds Traction Without Compromising Efficiency
For drivers looking for additional traction, Toyota offers Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive across the entire 2026 Camry lineup.
Instead of relying on a conventional mechanical AWD system, the Camry uses an electric motor-generator on the rear axle. The arrangement works together with THS 5 and contributes to the system's 232-hp combined output.
Toyota says the AWD system can continuously adjust front-to-rear torque distribution according to driving conditions.
During acceleration from a standstill, the system can send additional torque to the rear wheels to improve traction. If sensors detect slippery conditions or a loss of tire grip, the system can respond by adjusting torque distribution to help maintain stability and the driver's intended path.
Interestingly, the new AWD configuration produces 30 more horsepower than the previous-generation Camry equipped with mechanical all-wheel drive.
Sportier Dynamics for the SE, Nightshade and XSE
The Camry may prioritize efficiency, but Toyota has not forgotten about driving dynamics.
Every 2026 Camry uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, tuned to balance ride comfort with responsive handling.
The SE, Nightshade Edition and XSE take things further with a sport-tuned suspension, including specially calibrated front and rear shock absorbers and a larger-diameter front stabilizer bar.
The goal is to provide improved body control, stability and driver confidence, particularly when the road becomes more demanding.
Toyota also equips the Camry with selectable Normal, Eco and Sport driving modes, allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle's responses to their preferences.
The electronically controlled braking system uses on-demand hydraulic pressure generated through a pump motor in the brake actuator, helping provide predictable brake feel and controllability.
A More Athletic Design
The ninth-generation Camry was designed by Toyota's CALTY Design Research studios in Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Its most recognizable feature is the distinctive hammerhead front fascia, which has become an important element of Toyota's latest design language.
All grades feature LED headlights and daytime running lights, while each trim level develops the basic design in a different direction.
The LE emphasizes a more refined appearance with a black horizontal-bar grille and standard 16-inch alloy wheels. The XLE receives a dark metallic-gray grille and 18-inch black-and-machined alloy wheels, along with chrome window trim and a chrome Camry badge.
The SE and XSE, meanwhile, bring a more aggressive character.
Both feature sport-mesh grilles, side sport rockers and black exterior finishes. Functional front air ducts, side canards, rear spoilers and rear diffusers contribute to the sporty appearance while also supporting aerodynamic performance.
The rear design incorporates an exposed dual-tip exhaust, reinforcing the visual connection between the Camry's hybrid performance and its sportier styling.
The XSE goes even further, with a color-matched grille, front canards and rear diffuser, plus its standard 19-inch black-and-smoke-gray-finished wheels.
A Cabin Designed Around Comfort and Character
Inside, Toyota has given each Camry grade its own personality.
The SE and Nightshade Edition feature SofTex-trimmed seats with contrasting white accents. The SE is available with Boulder or Black interiors, while the Nightshade Edition receives a dedicated Black interior.
The XSE moves further upscale with a standard leather-trimmed cabin featuring distinctive "shooting blade" perforation patterns on the seats and door trim.
Two XSE interior color combinations are available: Black with blue-lined perforations or Cockpit Red.
Sportier versions also receive aluminum sport pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters and a leather-wrapped shift knob.
The LE takes a different approach, featuring an interior inspired by ocean waves. An embossed pattern appears across the woven-fabric trim and seat surfaces, with Boulder and Black interior choices.
The upscale XLE becomes the most luxurious member of the range, offering a combination of leather and Dinamica microfiber upholstery in Light Gray or Black. Quilted Dinamica trim is also incorporated into the front door panels and dashboard.
Toyota also focused heavily on seating comfort during the development of the ninth-generation Camry. Engineers revised the shape and density of the seat cushions and increased cushion length, while the headrests were softened and repositioned rearward to improve ergonomics.
Heated front seats are standard on XLE and XSE models and available on LE and SE versions. Higher grades can also be equipped with ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The XLE and XSE include standard eight-way power adjustment for both the driver and front passenger seats.
For an even quieter experience, XLE and XSE models feature front-side acoustic laminated glass designed to reduce wind noise and harshness.
For the first time in a Camry hybrid, XLE and XSE buyers can also select a power tilt-and-slide panoramic roof with a power-retractable sunshade.
Digital Technology Takes Center Stage
The 2026 Camry also expands its digital technology.
LE, SE and Nightshade Edition models come standard with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, while XLE and XSE versions receive a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument display.
The XLE and XSE can additionally be equipped with a 10-inch Head-Up Display, projecting information such as vehicle speed, warning indicators and navigation instructions into the driver's field of view.
Toyota's Audio Multimedia system is available with either an 8-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen, depending on configuration.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard, as is a Qi wireless smartphone charging pad.
Every Camry also comes with five USB ports: three in the front and two in the rear.
Connectivity options include simultaneous dual-Bluetooth phone pairing, available Wi-Fi Connect with 4G connectivity and Toyota's Drive Connect services.
With an active Drive Connect subscription or trial, drivers can use the system's Intelligent Assistant by saying "Hey Toyota" to request directions, locate points of interest, adjust audio settings or change the cabin temperature.
Over-the-air software updates are also supported.
For music enthusiasts, XLE and XSE models can be upgraded with a nine-speaker JBL Premium Audio system.
Advanced Driver Assistance Comes Standard
Safety remains a major part of the Camry formula.
Every 2026 Camry comes standard with Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert.
The sedan also features Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Toyota's comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies.

With the introduction of the Nightshade Edition, Toyota is adding a new visual dimension to a sedan that has already undergone one of the most significant transformations in its history.
The latest Camry is no longer offered with a conventional gasoline-only powertrain. Instead, every version combines Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid technology with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency.
The new Nightshade Edition adds a darker, more aggressive personality to that formula, while the availability of AWD across the range gives buyers greater flexibility in choosing their ideal Camry.
With up to an estimated 51 mpg combined, up to 232 horsepower, available all-wheel drive, modern digital technology and an extensive suite of safety features, the 2026 Toyota Camry continues to evolve while preserving the qualities that have made the nameplate one of the most recognizable midsize sedans on the market.
