2027 Hyundai Tucson Revealed: New Hybrid Power, AI Technology and XRT PRO Adventure Capability

Hyundai has unveiled the all-new 2027 Tucson in New York, introducing a redesigned SUV with a bold new look, hybrid efficiency, advanced AI-powered technology, and a rugged XRT PRO variant.

Hyundai has officially unveiled the all-new 2027 Hyundai Tucson, presenting its latest-generation SUV against the Manhattan skyline in New York City.

The new Tucson combines Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design philosophy with an updated hybrid system, a next-generation digital cockpit, artificial intelligence, and new technologies designed to improve both everyday driving and off-road capability.

Hyundai describes the new model as its "boldest SUV" yet, with the company positioning the Tucson as a more sophisticated, connected, and versatile vehicle for daily commuting and weekend adventures.

A Bigger and Bolder Hyundai Tucson

The 2027 Tucson receives a substantial exterior redesign.

Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design language emphasizes muscular proportions, pronounced fenders, crisp body lines, and a stronger SUV stance.

The long-wheelbase version measures:

  • Length: 4,700 mm
  • Width: 1,905 mm
  • Height: 1,685 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,785 mm
  • Standard ground clearance: 180 mm
  • XRT PRO ground clearance: 210 mm

Compared with the previous model, the long-wheelbase Tucson is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 20 mm taller.

The increased dimensions also contribute to additional cabin space.

The SUV can accommodate five occupants and offers a 6:4 split-folding rear seat configuration for North American and Korean models.

New H-Edge Lighting and Micro Pixel Technology

Lighting is another major element of the new Tucson's exterior design.

The front features Hyundai's H-Edge lighting, combining indirect center lighting with edge illumination to create a wider visual stance.

At the rear, new Prism Rear Lamps provide a three-dimensional lighting signature.

Hyundai is also introducing available Micro Pixel Lighting, which uses 25,600 individual LED pixels for precision lighting patterns and dynamic welcome and farewell animations.

The North American-oriented color palette includes options such as Ranger Green Pearl, Kodiak Blue Pearl, Driftwood Gray Metallic, and Red Rock Orange Pearl.

A More Comfortable and Spacious Interior

Inside, Hyundai has redesigned the Tucson around what it describes as a more refined and relaxing environment.

The dashboard uses a two-layer design, combining a horizontal upper section with an open storage tray below.

The interior also incorporates softer surfaces and ergonomically positioned controls intended to reduce driver distraction.

The new Tucson offers:

  • 1,036 mm of front headroom
  • 1,031 mm of rear headroom
  • 1,052 mm of front legroom
  • 1,064 mm of rear legroom
  • 1,470 mm of front shoulder room
  • 1,428 mm of rear shoulder room

Available comfort features include an Ergo Motion Seat with pneumatic lumbar and bolster massage functions, as well as a Relaxation Comfort Seat that allows the occupant to recline at the push of a button.

Hyundai Brings AI Into the Tucson

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Pleos Connect, Hyundai's next-generation infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS.

Depending on the configuration, the system uses either a 17-inch or 12.9-inch main touchscreen together with a 9.9-inch slim display.

At the center of the system is Gleo AI, an in-vehicle AI agent designed to understand natural-language requests and user context.

Instead of navigating through multiple menus, drivers can make conversational requests.

For example, Hyundai says a driver could ask the system to find a hiking trailhead with parking within a specific driving time.

The system is designed to interpret the request and provide relevant results.

Pleos Connect can also receive over-the-air updates, allowing the digital experience to evolve after the vehicle leaves the showroom.

2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Targets Up to 42 MPG

The hybrid powertrain is another major part of the new Tucson's appeal.

Hyundai's next-generation hybrid system is designed to combine fuel efficiency with performance.

For the North American market, the hybrid produces 233 horsepower, with a targeted fuel economy figure of up to 42 mpg for the 2WD version equipped with 17-inch wheels.

The hybrid reaches 0–60 mph in a targeted 8.5 seconds.

EPA-oriented figures listed by Hyundai include:

PowertrainOutput0–60 mphFuel Economy
Gasoline184 hp9.5–12.4 sec.28 mpg 2WD / 26 mpg 4WD
Hybrid233 hp8.5 sec.Up to 42 mpg
Plug-in Hybrid292 ps7.9 sec. with 4WD40 mpg listed

The actual fuel economy can vary according to configuration, wheel size, drivetrain, and driving conditions.

Plug-In Hybrid Offers 50 Miles of Electric Range

The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with a plug-in hybrid system.

Hyundai lists a combined output of 292 ps and an estimated 81 km, or about 50 miles, of all-electric range.

The PHEV also features a 7.2 kW onboard charger for charging at home or public charging stations.

The plug-in hybrid will be available in select markets.

XRT PRO Adds Off-Road Technology

For drivers looking for a more adventure-oriented Tucson, Hyundai is introducing the TUCSON XRT PRO.

The XRT PRO features:

  • All-wheel drive
  • All-terrain tires
  • 210 mm of ground clearance
  • Front recovery hooks
  • Increased approach and departure capability
  • Smart Terrain Assist
  • Target Speed Control
  • Ground View Monitor
  • Additional protective cladding

The model is specifically designed to improve the Tucson's ability to handle challenging terrain.

Smart Terrain Assist

The XRT PRO introduces Hyundai's first Smart Terrain Assist system.

The technology evaluates terrain difficulty and traction conditions in real time and provides visual information using a green, orange, or red "stuck score."

A Target Speed Control system can also automatically manage acceleration and braking at speeds between 2 and 25 km/h, allowing the driver to concentrate more on steering during low-speed off-road driving.

For North America, the Tucson HEV offers up to 3,000 pounds of towing capacity, which Hyundai says represents a 1,000-pound increase compared with the previous model.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Hyundai has also expanded the Tucson's safety and driver-assistance technology.

The vehicle uses hot-stamped high-strength steel in key structural areas, including reinforced center pillars.

The new Tucson also incorporates an In-Cabin Monitoring Unit, which monitors driver eye activity and drowsiness.

Other available systems include:

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
  • Navigation-Linked Smart Cruise Control
  • Lane Following Assist
  • Emergency Stop
  • Child Presence Detection
  • Rear Occupant Alert
  • Memory Reversing Assist
  • Ground View Monitor
  • Trailer Reverse Assist

Hyundai's technical information lists target safety ratings including NHTSA five stars, IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and five-star Euro NCAP, although the company notes that availability and specifications vary by market.

A Global Bestseller

The Tucson has been part of Hyundai's lineup since 2004 and has become the company's best-selling SUV worldwide.

Hyundai says cumulative global Tucson sales have surpassed 11.1 million units, including China-only models.

The United States represents approximately 20% of cumulative global Tucson sales. In 2025, hybrid models accounted for 31% of total Tucson sales in the U.S., according to Hyundai.

That makes the American market particularly important for the new generation.

When Will the 2027 Hyundai Tucson Arrive?

The all-new Tucson is scheduled to launch in South Korea later in 2026, followed by North America, Europe, and other global markets in 2027.

Hyundai has not positioned the new Tucson as simply another redesign. The company is using the model to combine several major trends shaping the SUV market: hybridization, artificial intelligence, digital connectivity, comfort, and increased off-road capability.

Final Thoughts

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson represents a significant expansion of what Hyundai wants its compact SUV to be.

The new model combines a larger body and redesigned exterior with a more technology-focused cabin, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, AI-powered infotainment, and the adventure-oriented XRT PRO.

For American buyers, the targeted 42 mpg hybrid fuel economy, available 3,000-pound towing capacity, and new digital technologies make the Tucson particularly relevant as the SUV market continues to evolve.

The bigger question will be how these technologies and powertrain options translate into real-world driving once the 2027 Tucson reaches North American dealerships.

For now, Hyundai's latest Tucson makes clear that the company's global best-selling SUV is entering its next chapter with a strong emphasis on efficiency, connectivity, comfort, and adventure.
