Stellantis Boosts Detroit Education: Southeastern High School Opens New CTE Annex Ahead of Manufacturing Day
Disclosure
DETROIT – October 2, 2025 – Southeastern High School (SEHS) in eastside Detroit has officially opened its new Career Technical Education (CTE) Annex, an 11,000-square-foot facility made possible by a $4 million contribution from Stellantis.
The grand opening, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 30, 2025, comes just ahead of National Manufacturing Day, celebrated annually on the first Friday of October to encourage students to explore careers in manufacturing. The event was attended by representatives from Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex, Detroit Public Schools Community District leaders, community partners, students, and SEHS alumni.
A Commitment to Advanced Manufacturing
The CTE Annex represents a significant investment in the future workforce of Detroit. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with welding labs, CNC labs, collaboration spaces, and classrooms, providing students with the hands-on training necessary for high-demand technical careers.
Christine Estereicher, vice president of public affairs for Stellantis North America, highlighted the company's commitment to the students. “This Annex is another example of the support that Stellantis has provided to students at Southeastern High School,” Estereicher said. “We have worked with hundreds of students in the last five years, from facilitating classroom training to providing internships at our Detroit plants.
The support for SEHS is part of the Community Benefits Agreement Stellantis reached in 2019 when the company committed to building a new assembly plant in Detroit. Beyond the Annex, Stellantis also established the Advanced Manufacturing Career Academy, an education-career pathway program designed to help students jump-start their careers in the rapidly growing field of advanced manufacturing.
Investing in Detroit's Automotive Future
The investment in the CTE Annex is linked to Stellantis' major commitment to expand its manufacturing presence in the city.
In 2019, Stellantis (then FCA) announced plans to invest $2.5 billion to convert the former Mack Avenue Engine Complex into a new assembly plant—the first new assembly plant in Detroit in 30 years—and retool the Jefferson North Assembly Plant.
This educational support ahead of National Manufacturing Day underscores Stellantis' dedication to fostering local talent and creating a direct pipeline from the classroom to careers in the automotive industry.
